Rolling Stone’s #2 Album Of The 00′s Is, Is This It by The Strokes Released October 9, 2001
Two Days, Two Reviews, Right On Schedule. I Have Dedicated An All Day Listening Session To The Strokes 1st Album Is This It And My Verdict…. Good Album, Maybe Not #2 Of The Decade, But Top 50 None-The-Less. I Cant Say There Is A Song I Dislike On The Album, I Can Listen To All Of Them Continuously, And Trust Me I Did, So That Has To Say Something Right??? While Each Track On The Album Was Distinctly Different Than The Next It Is Hard For Me To Say They Sounded Different, I Know Thats An Oxymoronic Contradiction, But It Was Wierd They All Sounded Similar. Maybe Its Because I’m Not An Avid Rock Fan, But I Shall Be By The End Of This Project. The Lead Singer Was Cool, Often Delivering Lyrics With What Sounds Like Great Passion. This Band Is Much Closer To Your Typical Rock Band As Opposed To Radiohead. They Used Guitars And Drums And Lyrics And Choruses, You Know Like Your Typical Band. The Guitar Play Was Stellar However, Like Something You Would Experience On The Last Level Of Guitar Hero Or Something. Actually I Feel Like I Have Heard Many Of These Songs Through Guitar Hero, But That Could Again Be Because I Am Not An Avid Rock Fan… Or Avid Guitar Hero Player. As For The Songs, My Top 3 Would Have To Be…. (Drumroll)…. “Soma”, “Someday”, And “Last Night”. My First Few Listens Through “Someday” Was The Run-Away Favorite, But After A Few Rounds, While Typing My Jordan/Nike/Fusion Post, “Last Night” Took The Top Spot. I Like The Beat And For Some Reason The Repeated Howling Of Last Night Was In My Head All Day, And I’m Cool With That. With Those Being My Top 3 I Dont Have A Bottom 3 Because I Honestly Do Like Every Song On The Album, I’m Just Not The Hardcore Rock Fan, So A #2 Finish Is Still Questioned. I Do HIGHLY Recommend A Full Listen For All My Readers Who Listen To Rap And R&B And They Closest They’ve Been To Rock Is The Jay-Z/Linkin Park CD. Expand Yourself To Other Genere’s You Never Know What You May Like, I Sure Never Did.
Random Factoid: The Orginal US Release Date Was September 25th, 2001 And Also Featured A Song Entitled “New York City Cops (They Aint Too Smart)”, But The Album Was Pushed Back And The Track Removed Due To The Attacks On NYC On Sept. 11 Of That Year, However I Recommend You Take A Listen To “New York City Cops” Would Have Been My Favorite Song On The Album.
